    DAVID BYRNE "PLAYS THE BUILDING"
    5/31/2008
David Byrne, singer/songwrither and lead singer of the reknown Talking Heads, is quite the artist, besides being a musician. However, recently, he's taken his musical and artistic inspiration to a new level, and has come up with a creative exhibit called "Playing the Building". It's a sound installation wherein peices of the actual structure of a building - currently the Battery Maritime Building in NYC - are used to create various types of sound-creating instruments. Byrne has actually done this before, in Stockholm, Sweden, but this is the first time Americans can see his musical architecture. The free exhibit will be on display Fridays through Sundays, May 31st through August 10th and you can even play the building yourself during a visit. More information, including MP3s of the building being "played", and an interview about the project, can be found at David's website.

DEVO's MARK MOTHERSBAUGH POSTCARD ART EXHIBIT
    5/23/2008
Mark Mothersbaugh, of the reknown and influential band Devo, has remained quite busy all these years and one of his passions is creating visual art. One of his art exhibits, "The Postcard Diaries" is currently on tour. During his downtime on early worldwide tours with DEVO, Mark Mothersbaugh began illustrating on postcards to send to his friends and family, which he still creates, and has been creating every day for over 30 years. It's an obsessive habit/hobby which still yields anywhere from one to a couple dozen new postcard-sized images per day." The exhibit can be seen from 5/24 to 7/3 at the Sacred Rose Tattoo Gallery in Berkley, CA; there is also a showing scheduled beginning on June 6th at the DLG Gallery in Chicago. Shows include pieces from Motherbaugh's other work, "Beautiful Mutants", and there are more dates . Check out Mark's gallery website to get a look at some really amazing stuff: http://www.mutatovisual.com/.

SEBASTIAN BACH's ARTIST DAD HOLDS POSTHUMOUS ART SHOWS
    4/23/2008
DAVID BIERK, (father of musician Sebastian Bach), the artist on a number of Skid Row albums, had scheduled a few gallery showings of his works, posthumously. Currently showing at the Nancy Hoffman Gallery in New York, the show runs through May 6th, and will be the last US showing of Bierk's works. There will be one last showing in September, in Montreal, Canada. Back offered the following statement about the shows: "My dad was born in 1944 and started showing his art in the Sixties. The finality of this being his last-ever American show is a reality that is very hard for me to accept. From spending my childhood helping dad hang his art on the walls of Canadian art galleries, to realizing that this will be the last chance ever on the planet to see a David Bierk show in the USA, does indeed fill my heart with a heavy sadness, even though I know 'David is watching' and would be so proud of his show up now at the Nancy Hoffman Gallery." You can find out more about the gallery and the exhibition HERE.
